2024 Spring Holidays - Out of Office Poem
Andrew Treloar,
A Light Exists this Spring
With apologies to Emily Dickinson and her poem A Light Exists
in Spring
I am taking annual leave to enjoy the wildflowers in Western Australia. I will attend to your email on my
return. In the meantime, as is my wont, I leave you with this poem.
A light exists this spring
Not present in the year
In any other season
When work is far from here
For colours wait afar
In West Australian fields
That human mind can't fathom
But human nature feels
They bloom upon the soil
They frame the furthest tree
Upon the furthest slope in view
They're waiting there for me
Then as Horizons fade
And work thoughts fall away
Their serried waves of colour
Hold senses all in sway
A quality of beauty
Augmenting my content
As heav'n had broken through the soil
A natural sacrament
