2020 Summer Holidays - Out of Office Poem
Andrew Treloar,
Zoom, be not proud
With apologies to John Donne
Zoom, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and wonderful, for thou art not so;
For those things which thou think'st we will forgo?
We'll not, poor Zoom. Thou art not yet reality.
The nat'ral world has better vocal quality
And vibrant colours, lack of lag, and O!
Much better melding of the flow
Of intercourse and meeting quality.
Thou art slave to bandwidth, chance, and governments;
Assault from those whom thy dominion scares,
And other tools demanded by our heirs.
Thy reign will fade in time with some laments.
As COVID fades, we'll leave our shelt'ring lairs
And greet each other, in the open airs.
